more random bits

I am SOOO very tired tonight, but after a shower, i actually feel like I need a bit of time to unwind before my head hits the pillow. Showering in the evening is very pleasant here, because who wants to go to bed feeling gritty!?

I'm not coherent enough to really be in a narrative mode, so here are snippets.

I'd forgotten about how dirty it is here, how dirty I am, and I had no idea how dirty a 2 year old can get. Much more like living on a farm, not the sterile suburbs. Must adjust expectations here.

No thought about a "green planet" or saving the planet or even about the planet in general. Rather a hard switch from colorado where we could recycle most anything.

I am innudated by plastic grocery bags again. They are everywhere!

I have so many ants in my kitchen. If I am up for totally cleaning up after every meal and snack, we're fine. but who does that? After lunch the other day I was totally laughing because there was no need to sweep - the ants were literally carrying every piece out of the door!

Jon and Vic came this weekend. so lovely to see them. so tiring as well - so much to talk about and catch up on. Such good friends. As Vic says, there are only so many people you feel okay with letting your kids fight it out (=

Forgotten how lovely the "drive up and honk" culture is here. SOOOO nice with a kid in the car.

Layla can say Salaam Alaykum now (=

Hung out with two of the teachers with Vic last night. So nice to feel like they are old friends (= not needing to do anything to perform for them or cater to them. They brought dinner and everything because I said i just could not organize anything (=

Still trying to find everything in my kitchen! stuff got tucked away in the weirdest places....

Forgot how to light my stove (=

weather just got hot enough that we have to swtich off the inside water heaters and start using that for "cold" water. Meaning we now turn on the hot for the cold and vice versa.

Eyes are closing - ready to head to bed. hugs to all. We got some photos of the weekend, but we were also really busy chasing kids. Layla decided to poop many, many times today after holding it for 9 days. not a pretty sight or smell (= just grateful to know this time around that she'll get back to her normal self....
