..and we've landed!

We arrived in Germany yesterday! It was a decent trip....we spent one night near the airport so we didn't have such a long travel day and boy were we glad about that. Layla loves Dora so we tried to explain the day the way a Dora episode plays out: taxi ride, short airplane (40 mins) loooooong airplane (6 hours), train ride (1.5 hours), car ride to our summer house!

True to her nature, Layla slept a good portion of the flight. She was also fairly drugged by the Zyrtec she is taking to try and clear her ears out from some fluid she's had there for a couple of months.

Typically, Ryan did NOT sleep as much, but Tom gets the MAJOR DADDY PRIZE for being patient enough to pat Ryan's tummy while he sllloooooowly went to sleep in the bassinet on the plane. After he woke up I put him on Tom's chest and he slept for at least another hour or two. Both kids have always slept more on Tom than on me (= I am one lucky mama.

Anyway. We are here but the ending of the day is better forgotten....long wait at the train station...no water or milk or food in the house. It was a holiday so most places were closed and we came in to town late enough that only 2 places were open. This is a VERY small town. Tom got us some interesting pizza that he and I ate while the kids basically sobbed (=

So off to bed and again, Layla slept like a rock and Ryan woke up 2-3 time. We simply MUST sort out Ryan's sleeping habits. Anyway.

We had a lovely family walk this morning....early. We stopped for a cafe au lait at a quaint little coffee shop in the town square. Really - this place is like a movie set. Everything is beautiful and green and has flowers tucked in every side place. People ride bicycles everywhere and you can HEAR life all around you. We are so used to having air conditioners on that you barely hear anything outside the house! Here you can hear the people talking outside your windows!

The trash and recycling is a HUGE deal here. I am still nervous about throwing anything away! Glass and plastic have their separate places, wet paper, dry paper goods and food are all separate. She has 4 trash cans and one other one I haven't even found yet!

We have the typical issues of trying to settle into someone else's house (where ARE the pot holders? how does the coffee pot work??) and we are still recovering from the travel but are looking forward to feeling a little more rested and enjoying the lovely weather and town.

Grateful to be here....

Success!

Layla was very happy to tell everyone that she had a magnet in her tummy AND that she pooped it out (=
We are relieved to confirm that everything is fine....it did involve poking around with a pair of chopsticks but oh well. (=

Guess what Layla just swallowed....

Not the battery.....the oval magnet. yup. We're a little worried, but folks tell us that she'll just poop it out. The magnets had been lost for awhile and she was excited to play with them again. She was the kitchen table and all of a sudden she looked really surprised and hesitant and then she told me that she swallowed the magnet! I just couldn't believe it! It is so massive.
Anyway, pray that she poops it soon (=

So long for the summer!

Our dear friends Jon and Vic are having a baby very soon! We had hoped to be in town to help them out. sniff sniff. The kids and I drove down the other day to say goodbye and to collect Ryan's THIRD birthday package. Fun fun! We love continuing the celebrating!

I just LOVED this picture of Josiah and Layla - the both look so old (= I included one from November of 2008 - it is hard to see them but you get the concept!

Kitchen Upgrade.

Tom and I set up this kitchen 6 years ago! It is hard to believe that we've been in this house that long (minus our 18 months in the US). After adding two kids to the family, I was desperate for a bit more space and space that is out of reach of little ones!

The shelf above the sink has all my pots on them so that Ryan no longer can pull them off the wire shelf next to the white door. They all have dents in them from the many time he got to them before I did (= When it was just Lj, I was a bit quicker on the draw.

Above the stainless steel table/cabinet hangs two white and one blue container. That is also new. I was SO excited to find a way to get more counterspace. Our wonderful large oven used to have a lid that I used all the time to double my counter space. Alas, in a freak accident it shattered all over the place several weeks ago.

Happy Birthday Nana

We want to say Happy Birthday to Tom's mom! If the kids were awake I'd take a chaotic video of them singing Happy Birthday (= Layla can of course sing it, but now Ryan also likes to yell/sing along (= Too fun.

Belated Gift Opening

We've had Ryan's gifts for awhile, but just couldn't find a time when Tom and I were both feeling well enough to open them! I have been sick for about 2 weeks and finally got antibiotics a couple of days ago. Then Tom got slammed with something icky for about 36 hours. Phew.
